International students in a mud run

So here's a fun fact about Little Sis:

Over a year ago my husband and I got the opportunity to invite 3 Asian boys into our home as host students.  These boys are in high school and a part of a non-profit organization that brings international students into Christian homes, where they live life while getting an American education.  The goal of this company is to place students into Christian homes where they get life on life discipleship and learn about God.  Then they go on to get a degree at an American University and they are launched out into marketplaces in their country where they can lead as Christ believing business men and women.  It has been an amazing experience and we have had the boys for one full year, and just started our second year with them.  Anyways, I wanted to share their first experience at a mud run this past weekend!

This past weekend, we did a really fun activity with some of the boys in the Leadership International Program.
In the days leading up to the event we showed our boys many videos of what we wanted them to do, and we told them great stories.  Either way we told them they would have to get up at 8a.m. on a Saturday morning to either come watch us participate, or they could be a part of it themselves.  Finally we persuaded them to have some fun with us.   This was no ordinary fun though, and since last semester they freaked out about carving pumpkins, and having to stick their hand in the pumpkin goo to gut it out, this was definitely a stretch for them.
On the morning of September 8th, we loaded the car with friends and family and headed to Abilene’s Seabee Park to participate in the Big Country Mudslinger Fun Run together.  This event was put on as a fundraiser for the local non-profit organization Abilene Youth Sports Authority.
We went out there and started the race at 9:30am.  We took Evans Choi, our senior student that has been a part of our family since August 2012, Steven Qin, our junior student, with us since August 2011, and Juno Wong, a senior student who has spent a lot of time with us, but is a host son to another family.  (Our other host son had to take the ACT).  We started the race each going at our own pace and we had a blast.  If you are wondering why I said that this would be challenging for our students, it was not just that they had committed to running a 3.1 mile run, but that throughout the 3 miles we were trudging, sliding, swimming, and falling through West Texas mud.
We all had a blast!  Throughout the run there were walls to climb over, logs hanging above mud puddles that you had to balance on, there was a huge slip-n-slide down a hill, and other fun and challenging obstacles that you had to achieve to finish the race.  The best obstacle was the 25 foot long mud pit that you had to crawl through to get to the finish line! It was great seeing the surprised looks on the boys’ faces as they were covered in red mud, taking photos as a family.

It was a wonderful experience for our whole family, and I am so thankful that the boys participated with us.  I know that it was a new and challenging opportunity for them, but they did have fun.  Plus I love being able to instill fun and healthy-living into them as they live life with our family.  Needless to say, after that weekend I had double the laundry to do, and we had to get the car cleaned inside and out from all the mud!

Also another fun fact about this weekend is that I got to do this race with my mom! It was just a fun thing to get to experience with her! It was only her second ever 5K, and it was great! Also, my 6 year old nephew joined in at the last minute! It was so fun to do this with them, and I know this will be a memory that he will have forever! He had a blast and did awesome!

Love my mom!!

Weekly Chase #7

Big Sis here.. I really LOVE the idea behind the Weekly Chase.. but I am surely struggling to keep to my goals each week. This week a couple of wrenches were thrown my way... but I can't keep using excuses about not reaching my goals. TRYING so hard to reach my goals this week!
If you haven't heard about the Weekly Chase that our friend over at Live, Love, Run does each week- you should really go over and read about it. Even if you don't blog, it is an awesome way to keep weekly goals and try and reach them! If you want to know more about the Weekly Chase go HERE.

BIG SIS:
My Goals from Last Week:
1. To run 15 miles Monday-Friday. I have a race on Saturday so I do not want that to count toward   my 15 miles. ---I ran a total of 2 miles this week. Something has been going on with me and messing with my desire to run.. I figured it out this week.. but I MUST get with it.
2. To get at least 5 more Birthday Celebration Posts completed. --Using blogger on my laptop is not working and has not been all week. IT is just a gray screen. Has anyone ever had that. I did not think to use my computer upstairs until last night.
3. To complete 2 Guests Posts on our blogs. --Nope.
4. Log what I eat daily.-- I started it.. but did not finish.
5. Water, Water, Water! -DONE
My Goals for THIS Week:
1. Run 15 miles total for the week.
2. To get Birthday Celebration Posts finished.
3. To get Bondi Bands shipped.
4. To get October Guests Posts ready.
5. Water, Water, Water

Little SIS:

My Goals for Last Week:
1. To run 20 miles this week-Not quite....I lost a lot of motivation this past week! I did hit my longest run yet, at 8 miles though! So it was somewhat successful!
2. To stay on track with my family weekly menu-YES!!! I have done awesome at this! and if you don't have a family menu, you should try it! It is amazing! It keeps me on top of things and accountable to myself to always cook or prepare meals.  Plus it makes me feel good b/c I am being organized and taking care of my family!
3. To be at home and continue to evaluate my schedule and talk to my husband before making plans outside of the home-Doing pretty well at this! Continuing to find new ways to be more organized with my schedule! It's going great though!
4. To stay on top of blogging and get posts done ahead of time-Doing pretty good at this one too, but needing to get some Birthday Bash Celebration posts done! ASAP
5. To get estimated prices done for all of my cushion/pillow sales that I have gotten messages on from my Etsy store! -Getting a lot of this done, still having steady sales, and making progress with some custom made cushions for some customers!

My Goals for THIS Week:
1. Run 5 days this week, and one of those be a long run
2. Make running more of a priority than other workouts
3. Eat well----take time to think about each thing that I eat and saying no to sweats or sugar filled drinks
4. Get Birthday Bash Celebrations done
5. Take a day off from work to relax!

Team Bleach Shirts

Last weekend I, Little Sis ran in a Mud Run called the Mudslinger 5K with my friends and family.  (I will be writing about the run this weekend, but for now I want to tell you about the fun shirts that we made :-)

For our race we signed up as a team called the "Mud Missiles!" The team name credit goes to my 6 year old nephew....who actually ended up running with us!

Anyways, us girls, (my friend, mom, and me) were planning to make matching shirts.  We already had the same shorts, and headbands that matched, so I was going to make us shirts.  Then, we ended up making the guys shirts too! They turned out great!

Here's what we did.
First we cut the shirts into razor back tanks!
Here's a pic of my dog wearing the shirt sleeves as a turtle neck collar lol.

We also cut out cardboard letters for our names.
We then laid the letters down on the shirt and sprayed bleach over it.  (We put bleach in a random spray bottle)

I learned that you really don't need to spray a lot of bleach, we could have done way less and it still would've worked.

Anyways, we also cut out a cardboard running man.  :-) I loved this little guy lol We didn't put the missile on the shirt, but I thought this was cute enough to share.

Anyways, we bleached the running man onto the back of our shirts.
Right here you can see the color difference once the shirt was all dry.  I loved it and thought they turned out great! Especially since we were just going to get them all muddy anyways!

Keep an eye out this weekend for the Mud Run Post!!

RooSport Review & Giveaway

Have you heard of the RooSport before?
Well we are here to tell you all about this great product....and
one of our Lucky Readers will WIN a RooSport of their own!

So let me first explain what a RooSport is:

I have been using my RooSport for several weeks now and have really loved it.
From the running/working out side of things, the product is great. It connects to the belt of your shorts/pants by a powerful magnet.  (AND IT WORKS!) and then it has a nice velcro pouch (you can see that below), and also a small zipper pouch on the outside.  So essentially you could hold a phone, money, keys, and maybe more in it.  It is great for running because I do not have to hold my phone while I run.  I keep it in the pouch. And the velcro pocket is very easy to fit my phone into, so I am not forcing it in, even with a case on it.

(phone in pouch)

Another great thing about the RooSport is that it is made from great materials.  I don't know the official material types, but they are perfect for working out and sweating.

I also used my RooSport when I went bike riding the other day too.  This is a perfect way to use a distance tracking app or listen to music, or have your phone for safety reasons, and still be able to ride your bike without the phone being in the way. It was great!

Along with working out, the RooSport is also handy for other things too.  You could use this in every day life as a way to hold a few things with you as you go about your busy life.  I know I recently used mine during work when I was always running around doing things, and wanted my phone with me.  It was perfect for that, and it never gets in the way.  It is also good for when you take your dogs for a walk, or you are playing at the park with your kids.  Think of anything that you do with your hands, but you also want to be holding your phone, keys, or money, and this is the perfect solution.

Good Luck to all of you! We love our RooSports and will continue using them to run, and do other daily  activities.
